The Ballad of Anaxarchus and Artaxes

Deep at the bottom of the sea
Anaxarchus and Artaxes
Fighting for the mermaid in between
In the valley of the sunken dream

Her beauty was like no other
A sight to behold
And they came to beat each other
To win her for themselves

Anaxarchus did everything he could
To show the mermaid he was good
But Artaxes took her into the woods
And then he tried to drink her blood

His evil was like no other
A demon, to be sure
And he came to stab his brother
To win her for himself

Anaxarchus lay dying on the ground
On the outskirts of the valley town
Artaxes wiped his blade and turned around
Neither of them made a sound

The mermaid approached behind them
And saw what he had done
She grabbed the sword from Artaxes
And forced it through his heart

Deep at the bottom of the sea
Anaxarchus and Artaxes
This is where they shall forever sleep
In the valley of the sunken dream
